Lankmarks in Mozambique

By its definition a landmark refers to the position of a prominent or well-known object in a particular landscape, and Mozambique offers this definition in droves. Due to its history and rural landscape, Mozambique and its inhabitants have always had a need for landmarks. It guides, protects and symbolizes where a nation is going.

A prominant area for landmarks is Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. Here you will find Statues, Gardens and beautiful colonial buildings. A part of Maputo known for its landmarks is the Tunduru Gardens. This is the perfect spot to relax during the heat of the day while admiring fine works such as the Iron House and the Entrance memorial of Samora Machel. If you travel a little further you should get to The Grand Train Station In Maputo, designed by Gustave Eiffel this is one of the most interesting buildings in the city. Statues in the city include the Statue of Eduardo Mondlane and Praça dos Heróis which is a memorial to the heroes of Mozambique who fell in their Revolution.

Other Landmarks that a traveller may find interesting would include The Cathedral and The Central Market on Av. 25 de Setembro. But do take care here to conceal your valuable as pickpockets are believed to operate here, Finally for a step back into the past we recommend visiting the The Fortress, one of Maputo's oldest buildings. Here you will also find the Military Museum.
